When the city started revitalizing east end last year, the playground was the biggest piece to the puzzle.
Once all the equipment was replaced, the plan was to put benches in.
So the city started the "Buy a Bench" program, where residents could purchase benches and personalize them as a way to recognize or even memorialize someone.
“Our hopes were early on that we would be able to sell six benches to circle the playground,” City Manager Rick Healy said. “That gave parents and grandparents a place to sit and watch kids play. We did do six, and now it's gotten more popular, we've expanded it to all our parks across the city.”
